The Preserve at All Saints Cemetery is the first of its kind in Michigan

Dedicated grounds for natural burial to open in Summer 2010

A growing number of people have asked whether there is a simpler, more environmentally sustainable way to be buried. There is. Natural burial, sometimes called green burial, eschews chemical embalming and placing metal caskets in cement grave liners. Instead, a simpler approach, reminiscent of the way burials were conducted years ago, allows for the natural cycle of life and death to occur.

To serve those who prefer this approach, we have designated a separate parcel adjacent to All Saints Cemetery in Waterford as a dedicated natural burial ground. Here the grounds themselves are conserved — that is, the land is maintained in a more natural state without the pavement and manicured landscapes that are typical of traditional cemeteries. Great care and planning is underway to ensure that The Preserve at All Saints reflects the core mission of the Mt. Elliott Cemetery Association: preserving the past, caring for the present and assuring the future.
