Remembering 9/11

September 10th, 2009

This week as the nation remembers 9/11, two of our cemeteries will host events that honor those who serve our country and gather the community to pray for peace.

Mt. Olivet Cemetery will host its second annual Rosary for Peace at 6 p.m. on Friday. Last year more than 100 people gathered at our cemetery in prayer. If you would like more information, please call 1-800-989-5650.

Clinton Township has asked Resurrection Cemetery to host their 9/11 event at 7 p.m. this Friday. Held at George George Park last year, the ceremony is extremely moving and features guest speakers discussing freedom. Please call1-800-989-9050 if you would like more information on this event.

Remembering 9/11 can be difficult for all of us who experienced that day in 2001. I hope you will have the opportunity to join one of our events — or one of the many events being held across the state — to remember and find comfort in the strength of our communities and our country.

USA Today Touts Importance of Planning Ahead for Final Arrangements

July 30th, 2009

Al Neuharth, former Free Press editor and founder of USA Today, recently wrote an article on the benefits of planning your own funeral and cemetery arrangements.  Mr. Neuharth argued well, and with high-profile examples, that by planning your arrangements yourself you can be assured that everything is as you want it.  I’d like to offer another reason: your family.  On one of the worst days of your family’s life, you can provide a measure of comfort in the knowledge that your funeral and cemetery arrangements are exactly what you wanted.  You also spare them the financial burden of making these arrangements in such a short period of time.

We are honored to work with families everyday and I can tell you, that without question, those who come in with their loved ones arrangements already complete appear far less stressed.  Commit to the hour it will take to complete these arrangements.  You have my word that your family will be glad you did.

Second Annual Sunrise Run

July 29th, 2009

Mt. Olivet hosted its second annual Sunrise Run recently. The day was gorgeous. The crowd was enthused. Most importantly, the event raised more than $15,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and $1,000 for the We Care Organization. Cemeteries around the country are revisiting their time-honored position as a community gathering place, and not only as a place to mourn. The 300 attendees of this year’s run helped Mt. Olivet realize this vision. Enjoy the photos!
