BREHLER, Edward J. August 7, 2015. Age 88. Beloved husband of Louise A. Brehler for 67 years. Loving father of Richard (Mary), Susan (Mark) Kopsch, Catherine (Charles) Peet, Patti Brehler (Andy) Andersen, James (Laurel), Anne Bicego, and Joseph (Karen). Proud and adored grandfather of 17 and great grandfather of 10.

The love Edward had for his wife Louise was evident to anyone who saw the two together, especially his children who grew up observing a warm, tender, and intimate relationship. The secret to a happy marriage, he and Louise would say, is to “shower together and say ‘yes, dear.’”

Edward was devoted to his family and was proud of the individuals he and Louise raised. He often remarked that his children led interesting and diverse lives and through them he learned many things he otherwise would not have known.

Edward had a strong work ethic. He retired as a skilled machinist and was proud that his initials are on a part he helped make that left the solar system on the Voyager spacecraft. He enjoyed a long retirement with Louise, during which he completed his goal of visiting all 50 states.

A serviceman just as WWII ended, Edward could not understand the segregation present in the military at the time. He was skeptical of politicians and big business. His daughter Anne said it best when she described him as her “earliest teacher of feminism, social justice, and empathy.”

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Resurrection Cemetery, 18201 Clinton River Road in Clinton Township. Attendees are asked to meet at the front gate of the cemetery by the office for a procession to the Most Holy Trinity Mausoleum for interment of ashes.
