In loving memory of Lillie Esther Butler-Tate, beloved mother of Abdoukhadre Butler and Geni Tate.

Lillie Tate was born on March 20, 1947, passed away on March 19, 2023. We will remember her forever.

Lillie Esther Butler-Tate, was the daughter of Joseph Alexander Butler, Sr. and Mary Magdalene Longmire-Butler. Lillie was born in Pensacola Florida. Lillie truly adored her mother and assisted in her mother’s care when her mother became disabled. Lillie was closest to her children Geni and Duke and always wanted the best for them. Together they shared shared many laughs and tears.

Although Lillie was a private person she was a confident to many. She was a good listener and had truly kind heart. She would often times sacrifice her comfort for others.

Lillie was the mentor, problem solver, and all around “great sister” to her 13 siblings who will miss her dearly.

Lillie was very intelligent and always liked to do crossword puzzles “in ink” and was always available to help her siblings with their homework.

Lillie had a love for music. A few of her favorite artists were Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, Patti LaBelle, and Ronnie Dyson. Lillie had a very artistic talent for drawing and making art from common objects. Her pieces are valued by those for whom she created them.

For her entire adult life Lillie was always a hard worker and at most points in her life she worked two jobs. Lillie enjoyed working at the Post Office and played on the Post Office’s soft ball team.

Lillie instilled hard work in her children. Although she sometimes struggled, she made sure her two children had everything they wanted and needed.

Lillie had a soft spirit and will be missed dearly by her children, siblings, a host of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins, and friends.
